Membership renewal for 2022
Dear APSC members,
I trust you have all had a relaxing Holiday and are turning your minds to sailing again in the Spring. You should all be receiving an e-mail in the next few days from renewals@aquaticparkcom. Please keep an eye out for this e-mail. If you don’t receive an e-mail message by January 10th or so, please check the junk folder of your e-mail server as the renewals e-mail may automatically be sent there. If you don’t receive a renewals e-mail by January 10, 2022 and it isn’t in your junk folder, please contact me at: membership@aquaticpark.com.
The renewals e-mail will ask you to indicate whether you wish to renew as a active member for the 2022 season or whether you wish to be a dormant member. Instructions will be provided on how to pay. You will be asked to pay your 2022 mooring fee (or dormant fee) by January 31, 2022. If you do not pay by that date, we will require you to pay a late fee of $56.50 in addition to your mooring fee (or dormant fee).
I appreciate that making a payment immediately after the Holiday period and just before the cut-off for RRSP contributions at the end of February is inconvenient, however, the Club needs to have an accurate picture of its revenues for the 2022 season as we prepare our budget and plan for another great sailing season. For 2022, the Board has approved a very modest increase of 2.5% to the mooring fees.
Please carefully review the information contained in the renewal e-mail you will receive. If any of the information is incorrect (or missing), please provide the correct / complete information in your response. Especially important for you to provide to us is all of your current car license plate numbers.
A change for 2022 in the renewal process is that we will not be collecting a paper work hours cheque from members. The Board of Directors voted on this issue and it was decided that, on a trial basis for one year, we would eliminate this cumbersome extra step in the renewal process. It was an administrative headache for the Board to collect the work hour cheques and a burden to members to physically go to a post office, buy a stamp and mail the cheque to the Club’s PO Box. The proposal approved by the Board was that, although work hour cheques would not be collected at the beginning of the year, members will continue to be responsible to perform work hours (30 work hours for one member/one family memberships; 40 work hours for a two members/two families consortium and 50 work hours for a three members/three families consortium). Therefore, you do not need to send us a work hours cheque as part of your renewal for 2022. Nonetheless, if you fail to perform your work hours by the end of November 2022, you will be charged $25 / hour + HST for each work hour not performed (up to a maximum of $847.50 (30 hours x $25 + HST)). If you fail to perform your work hours (or fail to pay the monetary value of same), your membership will be considered ‘not in good standing’ and you will be unable to renew your membership unless and until you have paid for your unperformed work hours.
Lastly, many of us sailors are prone to an affliction known as “big-boat-itis”. There is no shame in coming down with this disease. We all yearn for a majestic, lengthy and grand yacht. However, here’s the rub. APSC has limited space for big boats. Please, if you are thinking of up-grading to a larger boat, contact our Harbour Master before you make your purchase to ensure we actually have room for your intended purchase. Our mooring basin has free balls, but our mooring balls were spaced out at a time when a big boat was 28′. If you buy a new boat without receiving the Harbour Master’s approval ahead of time, there is no guarantee APSC can accommodate your new craft just because you are already a member. Please bear this in mind.
As your Membership Director, I am very enthusiastic about the up-coming season. I already have a number of prospective new members anxious to join the Club and I am looking forward to seeing all of our existing members again in the Spring. In addition, we have at least one dormant member returning as an active member. So, it will be another great sailing season in 2022. See you soon on the water,
Greg Graham
Membership Director
