Membership renewal for 2023
Dear APSC members,
I trust you have all had a relaxing Holiday and are turning your minds to sailing again in the Spring. You should all be receiving an e-mail in the next few days from me about renewing for 2023. Please keep an eye out for this e-mail. If you don’t receive an e-mail message by January 10th or so, please check the junk folder of your e-mail server as my renewal e-mail to you may end up there. If you don’t receive a renewal e-mail by January 10, 2023 and it isn’t in your junk folder, please contact me at: membership@aquaticpark.com.
The renewals e-mail will ask you to indicate whether you wish to renew as an active member, a fleet boat member or a dormant member for 2023. Instructions will be provided on how to pay. You will be asked to pay your 2023 mooring fee, fleet membership fee or dormant fee by January 31, 2023. If you failed to complete your work hours in 2022, you will also be asked to pay for the value of those unperformed work hours. If you do not pay your fees and any outstanding amounts for work hours by January 31, 2023, we will require you to pay a late fee of $56.50 in addition to your other fees in order to remain a member in good standing.
I appreciate that making a payment immediately after the Holiday period and just before the cut-off for RRSP contributions at the end of February is inconvenient, however, the Club needs to have an accurate picture of its revenues for the 2023 season as we prepare our budget and plan for another great sailing season. For 2023, the Board has approved a very modest increase of 2.5% to the mooring fees.
As always, you must provide me with proof of your marine insurance policy. You cannot bring your boat into the mooring basin in the Spring without providing me with a copy of a valid $1M (minimum) third party liability and property damage insurance policy for your boat. This is required to obtain a mooring and remain a member in good standing.
Lastly, many of us sailors are prone to an affliction known as “big-boat-itis”. There is no shame in coming down with this disease. We all yearn for a majestic, lengthy and grand yacht. However, here’s the rub. APSC has limited space for big boats. Please, if you are thinking of up-grading to a larger boat, contact our Harbour Master before you make your purchase to ensure we actually have room for your intended purchase. Our mooring basin has free balls, but our mooring balls were spaced out at a time when a big boat was 28′. If you buy a new boat without receiving the Harbour Master’s approval ahead of time, there is no guarantee APSC can accommodate your new craft just because you are already a member. Please bear this in mind.
As your Membership Director, I am very enthusiastic about the up-coming season. I already have a number of prospective new members anxious to join the Club and I am looking forward to seeing all of our existing members again in the Spring. In addition, we have at least one dormant member returning as an active member. So, it will be another great sailing season in 2023. Happy New Year and see you soon on the water,
Greg Graham
